Music Ministry
The praise and worship team exist to exalt Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; to edify the body of Christ, and to evangelize the sinner. Our goal is to develop a lifestyle of praise and worship unto God; not just in service, but in each and every day of our lives. Our worship should honor God alone. Within a service setting, the goal is to bring the congregation into the manifest presence of God (2 Chron. 7:1-3; 1 Pet 2:5) and set the stage for the ministry of the Word of God. The end result of our worship is to change lives into the image of God and draw souls to a closer encounter with Jesus Christ (Rom 12:1-2; 2 Cor 3:18).
Worship Team Criteria
1. Salvation – First, and foremost, one must be a born again witness of the life-changing power of God through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
2. Worshipper - To qualify for the worship team, one must be a worshipper. Every member, musicians and singers alike, must have an innate passion for praise and worshipping God.
3. Committed member of NKMI – The praise and worship ministry is not the right of the talented, but it is the privilege extended to those that are committed and faithful in helping to fulfill the vision of the ministry. We are open to receiving special music from those who are not committed to this body of believers; however, the regular, ongoing and leadership nature of this ministry requires a strong commitment to the people and leadership of this church. Members must be at least 16 years of age to audition.
4. Spiritual maturity – Because of the spiritual warfare associated with the music ministry, this is ordinarily not a place for new or immature Christians. Everyone in the worship ministry should be a Spirit-filled believer devoted to growing in the truth, the anointing, and the love of God.
5. Musical expertise - The musicians and vocalists need to be skilled enough to follow a service which is led by the Spirit of God. For that reason, each person must complete a successful audition before entering. We don’t want to limit what God will do simply because we can’t handle it musically. Note that the standard of musical proficiency required may vary as the church grows.
6. Time commitment - Practice sessions, preparation before each meeting, and ministry are mandatory. In addition, there are seminars, special retreats, and more that will aid you in becoming more effective as a worshipper. The worship ministry requires a fairly large time commitment. It is important that your immediate family members support you, and are willing to accept the necessary time commitment involved in being an effective minister of worship.
7. Ability to flow with the team - Some people are very gifted musicians and/or vocalists, but for one reason or another (vocal range, musical style, etc) they have trouble flowing with the team. These individuals are highly encouraged to share their musical gifts in other ways (home group worship, musical specials, etc) with the body. Musical proficiency does not automatically make someone a top candidate for the worship team.
8. A life above reproach – Because the praise and worship ministry was once the ministry of Satan, he will do all he can to sabotage your worship experience through the lusts and temptations of the world. It is your responsibility to continuously sanctify yourself from anything that will defile your soul or steal your testimony.
The Senior Pastor, in cooperation with the Music Director or Minister reserve the right to the final decision concerning entry into the worship ministry at this church.
